Intraoperative Impedance-Based Estimation of Cochlear Implant Electrode Array Insertion Depth

چکیده

Objective: Cochlear implant impedances are influenced by the intracochlear position of electrodes. Herein, we present an intuitive approach to calculate tissue resistances from transimpedance recordings, ultimately enabling estimate insertion depth cochlear Methods: Electrode positions were measured in computed-tomography images 20 subjects implanted with same lateral wall model. The estimated intraoperative telemetry data using bivariate spline extrapolation recordings. Using a phenomenological model, electrode depths estimated. Results: proposed method enabled linear all electrodes be average error 0.76 ± 0.53 mm. Conclusion: Intraoperative recordings correlate and angular insertion, estimations accuracy that can useful for clinical applications. Significance: used objectively assess surgical outcomes during after implantation based on non-invasive readily available

Considerations for design of future cochlear implant electrode arrays: electrode array stiffness, size, and depth of insertion.

The level of hearing rehabilitation enjoyed by cochlear implant (CI) recipients has increased dramatically since the introduction of these devices. This improvement is the result of continual development of these systems and the inclusion of subjects with less severe auditory pathology. Developments include advanced signal processing, higher stimulation rates, greater numbers of channels, and m...

A novel perfusion-based method for cochlear implant electrode insertion.

A cochlear implant (CI) restores partial hearing to profoundly deaf individuals. CI electrodes are inserted manually in the cochlea and surgeons rely on tactile feedback from the implant to determine when to stop the insertion. This manual insertion method results in a large degree of variability in surgical outcomes and intra-cochlear trauma. Additionally, implants often span only the basal tu...

MRI-Based Estimation of Scalar Cochlear-Implant Electrode Position

The position of the cochlear-implant electrode is important to audiological outcomes after cochlear implantation. The common technique to evaluate the intracochlear electrode's position involves the use of ionized radiation in MSCT, DVT, or flat-panel tomography (FPT). Recent advances in knowledge regarding the handling of MRI artifacts in cochlear implantees indicate that estimating the intrac...

Simulating the effect of cochlear-implant electrode insertion depth on speech understanding.

Normally hearing listeners were presented with vowels, consonants, and sentences for identification through an acoustic simulation of a five-channel cochlear implant with electrodes separated by 4 mm (as in the Ineraid implant). The aim of the experiment was to simulate the effect of depth of electrode insertion on identification accuracy. Insertion depth was simulated by outputting sine waves ...

Individual Optimization of the Insertion of a Preformed Cochlear Implant Electrode Array

Purpose. The aim of this study was to show that individual adjustment of the curling behaviour of a preformed cochlear implant (CI) electrode array to the patient-specific shape of the cochlea can improve the insertion process in terms of reduced risk of insertion trauma. Methods. Geometry and curling behaviour of preformed, commercially available electrode arrays were modelled. Additionally, t...
